According to overseas media reports, at a recent electric drive technology outlook meeting held by Porsche, more details of the second-generation Porsche Macan pure electric model were made public for the first time. The new car will be the first SUV model of the Porsche brand based on the PPE platform (Premium Platform Electric). In addition to the dual-motor four-wheel drive system, it will also be equipped with 800V battery architecture and high-voltage fast charging technology in the future. The new generation of Macan pure electric version is planned to be delivered in 2024.
From the previous exposure of the new car clay model, compared to the current Macan, the Macan EV’s front face styling style has changed greatly, and a large area of air intake has been cancelled, leaving only a smaller air inlet near the lower edge of the front face, making the front face shape more concise. At the same time, the headlight profile has become smaller, predicting that its internal structure is similar to the Taycan, and the side of the body is quite powerful. It is reported that Porsche plans to invest 10 billion euros in new energy models to develop more products. By the middle of this century, half of Porsche’s new car sales will be provided by new energy models. In addition to the already released Taycan family, the Macan is the first to embrace pure electric in existing models.
The new car will be based on the PPE platform jointly developed by Porsche and Audi. The PPE platform supports both rear drive and four-wheel drive. The new generation Macan will adopt a front and rear dual-motor four-wheel drive layout. Both motors will use a new generation of hairpin-type winding permanent magnet synchronous motor systems. Through the optimization of the winding structure and cooling system, the motor output function will be stronger. At present, the official revealed that the system maximum power of the dual-motor version will reach 450 kilowatts, with a peak torque of more than 1000 Nm.
According to previous news, in addition to the sports rim with a maximum of 22 inches and the use of a 48%: 52% center of gravity slightly behind the weight ratio, the new Macan pure electric version will also be equipped with a rear wheel steering system, with a maximum rear wheel steering angle of about 5 °. When the vehicle speed is less than 80km/h, the front and rear wheel steering angles are opposite. This design can reduce the turning radius by about 1 meter. When the vehicle speed exceeds 80km/h, the front and rear wheel steering angles are the same, providing better stability when cornering or changing lanes at high speed.
In terms of other configurations, the future flagship Macan will be equipped with Porsche Torque Guidance System Plus (PTV Plus) and Porsche Traction Management System (PTM). For different driving conditions, the system automatically adjusts the torque output of the left and right rear wheels through an electronically controlled differential lock on the rear axle. In addition, when facing non-paved ground, the PTM system will also optimize the driving force distribution of different wheels to improve the ability to get out of trouble. In terms of suspension, the Macan pure electric version will also be equipped with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and air shock absorbers. In addition to soft and hard adjustment, the system will automatically adjust the body height according to the driving mode and speed. Lowering the body during high-speed cruising will help to improve the aerodynamic effect, thus extending the battery life.
Like the Taycan, the new Macan will be equipped with the next-generation 800V battery architecture. Its power battery pack is composed of 12 square modules with a total capacity of about 100kWh. If you use a dedicated fast charging pile, it only takes 25 minutes to charge from 5% to 80% at the fastest, and the charging efficiency is much higher than that of the current Taycan model. In addition, the car also supports "combined charging". By disconnecting the corresponding high-voltage switch in the battery pack, the whole battery will be divided into two parts and supplemented by two charging piles, which will also greatly improve the charging efficiency.
